Today, an appropriate management of intellectual property (IP) rights includes not only procedures for rights acquisition, but also a variety of protection strategies such as enforcement of rights and protection against unfair competition acts.
The first and foremost priority of our business is to provide high quality services. Staff members of SUGIMURA are doing their best to meet the needs of the clients and to catch up with the changing situation surrounding IP. In order to provide good services to our customers, we do not intend to expand the number of staff, but with the appropriate number of about 100 staff we will provide the scrupulous services by taking advantage of our professional skills based on the continuous studies and the multilayered human network fostered during the 88 years of SUGIMURA's history.
We will endeavour to recruit and develop exellent human resources , so that we can improve the quality of our legal services to satisfy the needs of our clients by providing real solutions.

The importance of intellectual property is increasing due to such phenomena as accelerating globalization, growth in the number of patent applications filed worldwide, and an increasing trend in filing applications in multiple jurisdictions.
Furthermore, the need to adapt to recent developments and the need to provide inter-jurisdictional harmonization continues to keep patent practice across the world in an evolving state.
In order to assist our clients in obtaining effective rights for competition in the international arena, we will strive to provide at a high standard worthy as IP professionals. To realize this goal, it is our policy, as a group of active IP professionals, to constantly follow developments in other jurisdictions while also actively gathering, during our normal course of operations, insight on practice regarding examination, appeals and suits.
Tatsuya Sawada (Director)

The increasing importance of IP is not only recognized in the U.S. and Europe but also in the Asian region including remarkably developing China. As the number of companies expanding their business overseas increases, not only international applications but patent disputes involving worldwide companies have been increasing in Japan. Therefore, the staff of the overseas division is keeping the updated knowledge about the cases and law amendment and strong relationships with law firms all over the world, so that the rapid rights acquisition and their protection thereafter are realized by our services.
Kazuyuki Tomita (Director)

We are providing optimal services through a frequent communication and consultation throughout the whole process starting from the period before patent application to the periods during and after the rights acquisition in order to protect the fruit (invention) of the research and development activity made by the clients. We contain four technical divisions such as electronics, mechanics, materials, and chemistry. Patent attorneys and technical staff with appropriate knowledge, experiences, and various kinds of backgrounds will do their bests to acquire strong patent rights.
Reiko Baba (Director)

We suggest the strategic management of IPs with temporal restriction, which belong to companies, universities, and research centers. As a group of specialists capable of developing imagination and ideas, we will provide excellent services for the basic and frontier technologies as a mission of renewed SUGIMURA with the new president. For this purpose all the staff members of Sugimura, on the basis of 88 years of its history, will strive to meet clients' needs in a optimal way.
